After an absence of more than 15 years, AutoCAD is finally back on the Mac. Autodesk announced Tuesday the launch of AutoCAD for Mac, a new version of its popular design and engineering tool that will run natively on Mac OS X. AutoCAD for Mac will offer many of the features familiar to users of the software but will also take advantage of Mac OS X, said Autodesk. The program’s Cover Flow interface will help users browse through graphical previews of each file, while the Mac’s multitouch gestures will allow for panning and zooming of each drawing.

A botnet responsible for a significant amount of spam has been crippled but may reconstitute itself in a matter of weeks, according to vendor M86 Security. The Pushdo or Cutwail network of hacked computers ranked in the top five or so botnets for spam, responsible for as much as 10 percent of all spam, said Ed Rowley, product manager for M86 Security. The spam often advertises fake software, so-called designer goods and questionable pharmaceutical products. But security analysts with the computer security company LastLine took action last week, contacting ISPs that were hosting the command-and-control infrastructure for the botnet.

A little-known group of security researchers will kick off a month of bug disclosures that target unpatched vulnerabilities in software from Adobe, Microsoft, Mozilla, Apple and others. But the researcher who came up with the idea of month-long bugfests four years ago isn’t optimistic that reviving the practice will have much of an impact on the general state of computer security. The “Month Of Abysssec Undisclosed Bugs” (MOAUB) will feature flaws in Microsoft’s Excel and Internet Explorer, the Linux-based cPanel Web hosting control panel, and other software, said Abysssec Security Research in a post to the firm’s blog earlier this month.

A Slovenian man, who was lately arrested for supposedly writing the malware used to build the now-infamous Mariposa botnet, also sold an extra attribute of his bot software, a type of cookie scam known as “cookie-stuffing”. Cookie-stuffing illegally gains control over cookie files and the user doesn’t even realize it. Cookie-staffing may lead to the stealing of millions of dollars regularly. In fact, nobody is capable of assessing the amount being stolen employing this practice, primarily as websites usually don’t realize that theft is taking place.

Scientists and academics who study how we interact with technology say people often try to import those behaviors into their lives, as anyone who has ever wished they could lower the volume on a loud conversation or Google their brain for an answer knows well.
